Sweden

Sweden might not be the first place that comes to mind for wine, but its cool-climate wines are quickly gaining attention. From crisp Solaris whites to elegant sparkling wines, Swedish vineyards are thriving in unexpected corners of the north—especially in Skåne, Östergötland, and Halland. A new wine destination is growing in the land of lakes, forests, and midnight sun.

About Sweden

Sweden is an emerging player in the world of wine, surprising many with its quality cool-climate varieties. Though its winemaking history is young compared to traditional European regions, the country has embraced viticulture with passion, sustainability, and innovation.

The southern regions—particularly Skåne, Halland, and Östergötland—offer the most favorable microclimates, with long summer days, plenty of sunlight, and increasingly warm temperatures due to climate shifts. Here, vineyards are producing Solaris, Rondo, and other hybrid grapes that are well-suited to Nordic conditions.

Swedish winemakers are especially known for traditional-method sparkling wines, crisp whites, and light rosés, often crafted in small batches with meticulous care. Most estates offer charming accommodations, wine tastings, and farm-to-table dining, making Sweden an excellent destination for wine tourism.

While still under the radar, Sweden’s wine scene is growing fast—and earning a place on the global wine map.
